We had scoured the internet for many months deciding on which area of spain we would prefer to purchase initially a holiday home with a view to moving over permanently in around two years time.
As my husband is a keen fisherman, we decided to visit the Costa Dorada and, in particular the town near to the River Ebro, Tortosa and surrounding villages. After contacting several agencies who specialised in that area, we decided to visit with K&S Overseas Properties. Their service was friendly, helpful and definitely no-pressure, which would have made us run a mile!!
K&S Overseas
Properties found us some accommodation for our visit
- a lovely country house, which was just the kind of property
we were looking for... just a shame it wasn't up for sale!
After having the first
day to settle ourselves in, we arranged to visit the surrounding
area with one of the staff of K&S Overseas Properties
and see a selection of properties … they insisted that
they would show us no more than four properties a day. At
the time I thought this was a little impractical as we both
wanted to see as much as possible during our weeks stay, however,
I now understand that this is the most sensible thing to do,
otherwise your head can become 'saturated' with an overload
of properties you have viewed. As it was, we took a
video camera with us and recorded each property so that at
night we could look back on the three or four properties and
make notes. How I would have got on if we had viewed any more
in a day, I don't know!
Now for the area...it is to die for!! Contrary to any
remarks, there is not a lot of difference in the weather here
to in the Costa Blanca. Maybe a couple of degrees lower,
but nothing to shout home about! We explored some of
Tortosa on foot, which is definitely a beautiful and historic
town, set alongside the River Ebro. Just to lean against the
rails on the bridge going over the Ebro and watch the trout
jumping in the air was enough for my husband to get excited!
Travelling out of the
town was another experience. Passing through villages
such as Benefallet, Tiveneys, both alongside the River Ebro
to Torrent and Alfara de Carles, on the backdrop of the Els
Ports mountain range, you feel you have been transported to
a different world. Full of greenery and spectacular
scenery, with streams around every corner and leafy tree lined
lanes, yet only 30 minutes to the coast. What more could
you want?? K&S Overseas Properties
introduced us to several people who had already purchased
in this area and gave us frank advice as to what to look out
for when purchasing over in Spain - advice we greatly appreciated.
In fact, we decided on
the first property we viewed with K&S Overseas
Properties … a lovely house just a ten
minute drive to Tortosa. It needed some tlc, but not
major work - it was the situation that we both fell in love
with, the Els Ports mountains in the background, we had every
kind of fruit tree you could think of in our spacious garden
and ample room to put in a swimming pool, when we finally
retire to Spain. The property was, we felt, very good
value for money and we could not have asked for a better service
from K&S Overseas Properties, in fact,
even after a year of owning our home in the sun, when we are
over, we still reguarly keep in contact with the staff there,
meeting for coffees or something a little stronger!
Now we can't wait to move over here permanently!
